En 1975, Carl Weathers se presentó a la audición de cierta película sobre boxeo que iban a titular Rocky. Le informaron que leería su escena junto con el guionista, un tal Sylvester Stallone.
Una vez terminada la escena Weathers sintió que no había salido bien y exclamó “Podría hacerlo mucho mejor si me consiguieras un actor de verdad con quien trabajar”. No sabía que Stallone era además el protagonista.
Ganó el puesto de Apollo Creed de todas formas.

“And we read through the scene and at the end of it, I didn’t feel like it had really sailed, that the scene had sailed, and they were quiet and there was this moment of awkwardness, I felt, anyway. So I just blurted out, ‘I could do a lot better if you got me a real actor to work with,'” he says, laughing. “So I just insulted the star of the movie without really knowing it and not intending to.”
