El perezoso se mueve tan lento que crecen algas en su piel. Esto a su vez genera pequeños ecosistemas, con cientos de especies. Al menos cinco especies de polilla viven exclusivamente en la piel de perezosos: Cryptoses waagei, Bradypodicola hahneli, Bradypophila garbei Cryptoses choloepi y Cryptoses rufipictus
