En inglés, weird (extraño, raro) significaba hasta el siglo XVI “poder de controlar el destino”. Ese es el motivo por el que Shakespeare nombró The Weird Sisters a sus brujas en Macbeth. Las representaciones posteriores de estas brujas, vestidas de formas extravagantes, condujeron a la acepción contemporánea de weird.
